Biographical Sketch of the Principal

Madhumita Manna   M.Phil. Ph.D


Dr. Madhumita Manna completed her B.Sc degree in Zoology Hons from erstwhile Presidency College, Kolkata and M.Sc from University of Calcutta. She had qualified CSIR-UGC NET and started her research career under the guidance of Prof. A.N. Bhaduri, Bhatnagar awardee and the then Director, of Indian Institute Chemical Biology (IICB), Kolkata. Her research work was in the field of molecular parasitology and epidemiology of Indian Kala-azar for which she was awarded Ph.D degree from Jadavpur University. She had joined West Bengal Education Service (WBES) in 1998 and served Bethune College and Barasat Govt. College. Dr. Manna has joined WB Senior Education Service (WBSES) on 7th February, 2017 as the Principal, Bidhannagar College, Kolkata.
Dr. Manna is recipient of prestigious Jubilee Post Graduate (Merit) prize from University of Calcutta for securing First Class First position in Honours subject.
She has completed four major projects (DBT, UGC, UGC-DAE,) and one minor project (UGC) and was project guide for two CSIR SRFs. Three of her research fellows (Dr. Sanchita Datta, Dr. Supriya Khanra & Dr. Piyali Das) were awarded Ph.D degree from Jadavpur University and West Bengal Health Science University respectively. Recently, Sangita Lahiry has submitted thesis in Jadavpur University. One scholar is working on Leishmania parasites’ genome sequencing in collaboration with Prof. Partha Saha, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics and other has joined the laboratory recently with Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Scholarship. Three students were awarded M.Phil degree under her supervision.
Dr. Manna has more than 35 International and National publications in peer reviewed, impact factor journals. She acts as reviewer of many reputed journals of Elsevier, Springer etc and was resource person in UGC DAE Ph.D Course work and M.Phil Courses Kalyani University and University of Calcutta respectively.
Dr. Manna presented her research works in many National and International Conferences/ Symposia/Workshop and visited Italy, Australia, Bangladesh. She is Life Member, All India Cytology and Genetics, India, Zoological Society, Kolkata, India, Indian Science News Association. Dr. Manna was also member of International Society for Vaccines, USA.
Recently her group had published their works on Miltefosine drug resistant field isolate in Scientific Reports, a Nature Publishing Group journal.
