The Department of Chemistry at Bidhannagar College is one of the best centers for teaching in Chemistry under the West Bengal State University. Chemistry has been taught here at undergraduate Honours since 1985. In 2013 this academic curriculum has been extended to postgraduate program. The Department offers three-year B. Sc. (Honours) courses (intake capacity: 52) and two-year postgraduate courses (intake capacity: 33). A good number (~16) of guest teachers are taking classes in our PG section. Most of the guest teachers are eminent former faculty members of reputed institutes. Class sizes are moderate providing a good deal of faculty-student interaction and academic flexibility. The overall performance of our students in the university examinations as well as in the national level competitive examinations is quite good.
Many of the undergraduate students go for higher studies to other reputed postgraduate institutes in India and also succeed in getting very good placements for research at leading Institutes in India and abroad.
The Department holds invited lectures and seminars and these have eminent professors and leading Chemists as resource persons. Students are enormously benefited by attending these lectures and seminars.
